Heroes

Krishna

Krishna is the most well known and widely followed Indian figure and has his own worldwide following known as the "Hare Krishna" who go around chanting a mantra in his honor. In hinduism he is believed to be an incarnation of Vishnu, a member of the trimurti. In fact he is the only incarnation regarded to be an absolute incarnation and is regarded as Vishnu himself. He is recognized as a Svayam Bhagavan (the absolute representation of god), which is a title which had only ever been given to the trimurti. He has been featured in many Hindu epics and is often pictured with his flute, which has come to represent him.

Rama

Rama, or Ram, is an incarnation of Vishnu sent to earth to bring peace and eliminate evil. Rama was exiled from his kingdom for 14 years by a political loophole so that he would be unable to claim the throne. After a couple of years his wife was kidnapped by the evil king Ravana. So he assembled an army and defeated the evil king before returning to his kingdom with his wife after the end of his exile. His story signifies light conquering darkness and good prevailing over evil. The day he returned to his kingdom is celebrated as diwali, the festival of light. Despite being extremely powerful, Ram is not an absolute incarnation of Vishnu and is not revered as much as Krishna.
